Dreamcatcher | 捕夢網
A dreamcatcher is a handmade object traditionally used by Native American cultures, particularly the Ojibwe (Chippewa) people. It typically consists of a circular frame, often made of willow, with a woven web or net in the center. Here are some key elements of a dreamcatcher:
1. Hoop: The outer circle represents the circle of life and is usually made from a flexible branch, often willow. It’s typically wrapped in leather or string.
2. Web: Inside the hoop, a web or net is woven using string or sinew. This web is designed to resemble a spider’s web and is meant to catch bad dreams.
3. Feathers: Feathers are often attached to the bottom of the hoop. These are believed to help the good dreams slide down into the person sleeping below.
4. Beads: Sometimes beads are woven into the web. These can symbolize the spider that created the web or represent good dreams.
5. Purpose: Dreamcatchers are hung above the bed or in a place
where the morning light can hit them. According to legend, they filter dreams, allowing only good dreams to pass through the web and slide down the feathers to the
sleeper, while bad dreams get caught in the web and
are destroyed by the first light of morning.
